  • Spiritual month of Shravan / Saawan

Shravan aka Saawan (sidereal lunar) month comes at the time of Ādi (Ashadha) which is based on sidereal solar calendar. This month is denoted by the full moon (purnima) in Shravana nakshatra. It usually comes in between July and August of every year. While some cultures use the first full moon day of July as the start of Shravan some use the first new moon day (amavasya) of July as the start of the month. The full moon starters are called Purnimanta and new moon starters are Amanta. “It is the most auspicious month for worshiping many Gods and Goddesses especially Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.” Worship of God Shiva (overall betterment of life) Best time - Mondays (Shravan Somvar) and Ardra nakshatra days Shravana denotes the union of Shiva and Shakti and the birth of Lord Kartikeya also named as Sharavana, Subramanya, Muruga, Skanda. Shiva is the Panchaanana – the five elements of nature (fire, earth, air, water and ether), when these five elements united with the Shakti, the sixth element, it gave birth to Shadaanana (six headed) aka Lord Kartikeya. He represents everything related to six such as the sixth tithi, the third eye chakra (6th chakra), the six pointed triangle and more. Third eye chakra is the Guru that teaches you everything about the existence. “Guru Tattva” as we shall see stems from the relationship between Shiva and Kartikeya. In Skanda Purana (the largest of all 18 Maha Puranas) there is a story that once Lord Kartikeya was sent to learn from Lord Brahma. He asked Brahma the meaning of Pranav Mantra (primordial sound) “OM”. Brahma couldn’t explain this properly so Kartikeya came back to Lord Shiva. Shiva questioned him why, he said what happened there and asked him if he knew the meaning of “OM”. Shiva smiled and replied no. Kartikeya said i'll explain you. Shiva was interested and said yes. Kartikeya then said, I can't tell you like this, you’ve to give me the place of the Guru. This means the student has to be at a lower place than a Guru. Education should come from the top to bottom. Lord Shiva bowed down to Lord Kartikeya and listened to the meaning of “OM”. Since then Lord Kartikeya got the other name “Swaminatha”. “The Guru Tattva is placed even higher than Lord Shiva” It's funny that Lord Kartikeya is depicted as just a war God in some cultures but he and Lord Ganesha, both are the representation of duality of the universe (ShivaShakti). Shakti is manifested in every living being including planets, stars, white and dark matter. Shakti has three principles i.e. Iccha (will), Kriya (action) and Gnana (knowledge). Everything in the universe needs these three things thus the saying “Shakti is the principle of life”. Lord Kartikeya represents this principle through his consorts Valli (Iccha), Devasena (Kriya) and a Spear (Gnana). Worship of God Vishnu (balance) Best time – Wednesdays and Shravana nakshatra days Deity of Shravana (திருவோணம்) nakshatra is Lord Vamana (avatar of Vishnu). Read the story in the aricle section “Shravana nakshatra”. Worship of Guru (Jupiter) and Dakshinamoorthy (Shiva) Best time – Thursdays and Pushya nakshatra days The above mentioned “Guru Tattva” and story of “Shravan nakshatra” are enough to understand why worshipping Guru is important. Dakshinamoorthy on the other hand is a form of Lord Shiva and the deity of planet Jupiter. He got this name when he explained the four vedas to the sons of Brahma in just few words while sitting under a tree towards south direction. Some texts say that these four sons (sanaha, sanadana, sanantana, sanat kumara) are the creators of four vedas. Varalakshmi Vrat Pooja Best time – Fridays (spl. Friday before Shravan Purnima) Goddess Maha Lakshmi is the consort of Lord Vishnu and bestower of wealth and prosperity. Vara Lakshmi is a form of Mahalakshmi among her eight forms. Varalakshmi vrat pooja (fast) is conducted on Friday before Shravan purnima. Mangala Gowri Vrat Pooja Best time – Tuesdays Mangala Gowri is a form of Goddess Parvati. Gowri vrat (fast) is conducted for marital bliss and harmony. Gowri vrat is conducted on every Tuesday of Shravan month. #milkywayastrology #arunastrology #shravanmonth #saawanmonth #shiva #guru #ashadha #aadi #vediccalendar

  • Science of Mantra Chanting

Chanting mantras has the benefit of calming the mind and allowing access to specific knowledge associated with the mantra from the universal consciousness. For example, Lakshmi Mantra allows one to gain all the material wealth while Mantra for Matangi (Tantric Goddess) allows one to gain the occult knowledge and supernatural abilities. Let's learn how. Mantras consist of unique syllables that are intended to be chanted. Chanting offers two main advantages. Firstly, it produces a potent energy barrier around an individual, also known as an "aura". This aura, when it grows stronger, has the potential to create a positive impact on one's surroundings. It has the ability to change things for the better and bring about a peaceful and composed state of being. Additionally, even the disposition of those around you may change when they are in your presence. Secondly, chanting mantras allows you to access the memory of the universe, also known as the "akashic records". This term gained popularity through the work of the Western astrologer Edgar Cayce. Every mantra possesses a unique power or knowledge that can be unlocked by reciting it repeatedly. However, our ancestors went even further and discovered that chanting a mantra at a particular time on a specific day can enhance its potency. Akashic Records The Akashic records serve as the universe's vast library, containing records from its inception to the present day. Unlike a traditional library with a physical location, it is a repository of thoughts that exists everywhere (like a cloud library). In much the same way as our memories are dispersed throughout our body, the Akashic records are present everywhere in the universe, including within each of us, contributing to our overall being. However, accessing the Akashic records is only possible when one attains a sense of unity with the universe, realizing that their existence is not limited to being a specific individual, but rather a part of the larger cosmic scheme. In other words, the carbon atoms that make up our body are the same ones found in every living being on earth. When a person's body is buried or cremated, the molecules from the body mix with the earth or air, which then get absorbed by plants and animals that we consume, creating a cycle of life. This is the essence of who we are. Will of the Universe Being one with the universe entails aligning your actions with its will. The ultimate goal of the universe is to guide us towards enlightenment and liberation (moksha) once we have fulfilled our karmic duties (prarabda karma) through our present actions (agami karma). However, our free will often leads us to make mistakes and get trapped in an endless cycle of rebirth. When we align with the universe's energy, we become more attuned to its will and are less likely to act against it. When people say they are not forcing anything to happen, it indicates a stronger union with the universe. Scientific Explanation According to modern physics, everything in the universe is made up of vibrations. Even atoms require specific vibrations to take a particular shape. At the subatomic level, a dance of vibrations occurs, which is often referred to as the cosmic dance. Lord Natraja represents this universal truth, and that's why his statue is kept at the CERN particle research centre. Each atom and particle have unique vibration that combine to create different objects based on their combination, much like how your cells come together to form you as a whole. By matching your frequency with that of an object's frequency, you can access or even control the object. There are many incredible videos online that demonstrate this phenomenon. The fundamental sound vibration (primordial) that underlies everything in the universe is the sacred syllable "AUM". To delve deeper into this concept, it is important to understand that "thoughts create everything". Even the primordial sound had to originate from something, and that something is the pure consciousness in the form of subtle thoughts (aka Shiva). These thoughts are not the same as the surface-level chatter that constantly runs through our minds, which we are often addicted to. Rather, they are deeper and more profound, manifesting as sparks of inspiration that we may not even be consciously aware of. For example, before taking any action, we typically run it through our minds first. However, even before this mental rehearsal, a notion or spark of thought arises in our minds. These fleeting moments of thought are incredibly powerful and can store vast amounts of information, such as an entire day's worth of experiences. If you're asked to recall what happened yesterday, it would only take a moment to run through the events in our minds to provide a detailed account. That's the power of thought. While science suggests that this thought process is happening on a subconscious level, I believe that it actually occurs on a conscious level, and that our actions in the external world are what take place on an unconscious or semi-conscious level. Most of the time, we are unaware of why we get specific thoughts because there is a constant chatterbox in between our body, which is the outer self, and the mind, which is the inner self. This chatterbox always keeps us busy in the mundane routine of our lives, and we forget to explore our inner selves. This chatterbox is supercharged 24x7 because of our constant interactions with people, excessive use of social media, and consumption of news. All these things trigger our emotions continuously, and our lives become nothing but a series of chatterbox moments. The conscious aspect of yourself stores all memories as thoughts, but these thoughts can only be accessed with a particular mindset. This is why you often hear people say, "I'm disturbed right now, I can't remember anything." It's because their mind needs to be in alignment with the same frequency as the stored memory in order to access it. The formation of thoughts results in the creation of corresponding sounds, which, in turn, shape the physical objects around us. Conversely, the sounds produced by these objects can also evoke specific thoughts and emotions within us. The memory or thought I am referring to does not have an expiration date, but rather exists indefinitely throughout the universe. Similar to our bodies, the universe operates through consciousness and stores everything that has ever occurred since its creation as akashic records. According to Vedic texts, the universe is a form of consciousness known as the universal consciousness, and we are all simply manifestations of the universe's thoughts. Like the saying goes, "When Lord Vishnu is awake, the universe is sustained, and when he sleeps, the universe undergoes dissolution." Types of Chanting Mantra can be chanted in four different ways, including: Loudly Quietly Silently, while mouthing the words Mentally, by focusing on each letter or syllable of the mantra. The last one is the most potent method to strengthen your aura and to access the universal archive effortlessly. Different mantras can have various effects such as bestowing specific abilities or bringing balance. The crux of the matter is that when you consciously use your subconscious mind, you can access the records. However, the effects of chanting take time to manifest. For instance, if you chant a mantra 108 times a day, you can observe positive results within a few days of practice. Chanting more times a day, especially through the power of thought, such as 1008 times or more, yields even better results. Devotion and dedication go hand in hand - one cannot exist without the other. By following a consistent practice with dedication, it becomes more powerful. Maintaining a regular schedule and avoiding excessive indulgence in materialistic pleasures can completely transform your life and even alter your destiny. What is Beej Mantra? In Sanskrit, the word for seed is "Beej". Beej mantras are short mantras for a longer version meant only to be chanted silently through one's thoughts. Every mantra has one including the infamous Savitur Gayatri mantra.

  • Secrets of Karma

What is Karma? Karma = action Your birth is an action, first breath is an action, first cry is an action. Basically anything you do in your life is an action. Action is what is called Karma. The meaning of karma extends to every facet of existence – from the basic act of breathing to the complex tasks we perform in our day to day lives. Living beings are in a constant state of action. Life ceases to exist when action halts, thus rendering a living being as non-living. In this sense, action becomes the pulse of life. Ancient scholars compared karma to a divine force because of this profound connection. In Sanskrit, karma encompasses not only the concept of "action" but also embraces its broader meanings, such as duty, activity, and work. Law of Karma Everything in the universe fulfills its duties throughout its existence. Life ends when karma ends. Karma operates on the fundamental principle of action and reaction, similar to Newton's third law, where the action you perform comes back to you in similar ways. For instance, you breathe in the same volume of air you breathed out, and you breathe out the same volume of air you breathed in. This cycle is what keeps you alive, demonstrating the intricate harmony between action and existence. Karmic cycle The cycle of birth and death is inevitable; just as you were born, you will one day pass away, only to be born again. It's a perpetual, repeating pattern, much like your constant breathing cycle that you cannot halt. However, similar to how you can gradually slow down your breathing, you have the power to decelerate the cycle of life and death by reducing the amount of karma (action) you engage in. Every birth presents an opportunity to fulfill pending karma and minimize the creation of new ones. Despite this chance, we tend to accumulate new karmas instead of diminishing them. We perform karma through our thoughts, words, and actions. It can also be classified as mental, verbal, and physical actions. The Vedic knowledge have provided us with an understanding of what karma is and how it operates. However, as time has passed, the true meaning of karma has been distorted through various misinterpretations. It is only by approaching this concept with an unbiased perspective that one can gain a genuine understanding of its true nature. Maya The principles of karma are expounded in Shaiva Siddhanta, states that the soul (atma/consciousness) becomes bound by attachments and falls into a state of oblivion before the inception of time and space. Once ensnared by the bondage, the soul sinks deeper into it, ultimately leading to its own destruction. At this juncture, the soul becomes acutely aware of its plight and yearns to break free from the bondage, but this cannot be achieved on its own. Therefore, God (Paramatma/super-consciousness) creates Maya, the illusory time and space (aka universe), to help the soul gradually detach itself from the bondage and eventually attach itself to the God (Paramatma). The reason why the soul becomes attached to the bondage in the first place is difficult to ascertain. According to the enlightened Masters (Siddhars) of Shaiva Siddhanta, the attachment to the bondage of a soul is beyond time and space, that can only be understood by transcending the time cycle (aka enlightenment). The crux of the karma principle is that "bondage compels us to perform actions that create repercussions and perpetuate the cycle of birth and death. Shaiva Siddhanta talks about three immortal entities. The first is Paramatma (Supreme Soul aka God), second is the individual souls, also known as atma and the third is the bondage, which is the state of attachment that traps the soul in the cycle of birth and death. The soul is supposed to detach itself from the bonds and attach itself with the supreme. Types of Karma Sanchita Karma: This type of karma refers to the collection of all the karma accumulated by your soul throughout all the lives you have lived so far. Prarabdha Karma: Prarabdha karma is based on the idea of fate. Since the collection of Sanchita is vast, it cannot be completed in one lifetime. Therefore, a part of it will be bestowed to the soul in this life, which we call fate. Different karma mature at different stages of time, and only those matured karma will be given to the soul, which is called Prarabdha karma. Agámi Karma: This type of karma is based on how you perform your duties, as well as the expectations and desires that come out of it. Some scholars use the term "Kriyamana karma" to refer to how you perform your duties, and "Agámi" to refer to your desires and expectations arising from them. According to Shaiva, "Agámi" is sufficient to explain both actions and desires. To illustrate the types of karma, let's compare them to a modern day bank account: Sanchita is the total amount of money in your bank account Prarabdha is the portion of that money allotted to you for spending Agámi is how you spend that money and what comes out of it. A matured soul will simply spend the money, whereas a young soul may invest and accumulate more money that furthers the cycle of birth and death. Sanchita is seen through the 12th house of your birth chart, while the Prarabdha is seen through 6th house, and the Agámi is seen through the 10th house. Maturity of Karma and The Cycle of Birth It is common to hear people ask why they must take another birth to complete an unfinished karma instead of fulfilling it within the same lifetime. While this question may seem reasonable at first, let's delve deeper to see what is what. In the above section, you were introduced to the fundamental concepts of karma which included the idea that you are the creator, preserver, and destroyer of your karma while God provides you with a platform (the 3D world) and a physical body made up of the five elements (Pancha Bhutas). Additionally, you learned that your fate and free will are determined by your matured karmas. So, what exactly are matured karmas? Matured karmas are those that manifest at the appropriate time and circumstances. This manifestation can occur within a matter of seconds, a few years, or even across several lifetimes. Let's find out how with some hypothetical scenarios. The following scenarios are imaginary and intended to illustrate karmic patterns based on my understanding of the principles. Scenario 1: Reason for Next Birth Suppose Person A kills Person B, leaving B's parents in extreme mental agony. B was their only son and just 20 years old, but he was brutally murdered by A. As a result, A has accumulated a lot of negative repercussions by inflicting sudden, violent, and painful death upon B and causing lifelong pain to his parents. According to the principles of karma, A is now destined to undergo a similar experience. However, A is already 70 years old and has no family. What do you think will happen next? Scenario 2: Reason for Multiple Births Person X is the owner of a pesticide company that kills countless insects, birds, and animals, and sometimes even humans. X has created a tool that causes painful death to multiple lives. According to the principles of karma, X is now meant to experience the same pain repeatedly to compensate for what he has started. However, it is not possible to go through all the pain in one lifetime. What do you think will happen next? Scenario 3: Multiple Births vs Single Birth Person Q has worked as a prison executioner and has been responsible for carrying out multiple executions in his career. This means that he has caused the painful death of numerous individuals although these individuals were convicted criminals. According to the principles of karma, Q would need to experience a similar amount of pain in return for his actions. However, since the underlying motive for Q's actions was to uphold justice, it's possible that instead of experiencing the same pain in multiple births, Q may experience a prolonged but less intense pain in one lifetime. Scenario 4: Births through Desires Person M betrayed his girlfriend P, which she discovered and wanted to avenge M in the same way. However, she dies suddenly due to an accident before she could do so. Meanwhile M lived on for the next 20 years and eventually dies at the hands of his wife. In order to fulfill her desire for revenge, P's soul would have to wait for 20 years to be reborn at the time when M also born. However, during that 20 years, the universe allows P to take birth and live a short life span of 18 years to fulfill her previous life's desire of becoming an actor. After this short life as an actor, she dies and reborn once again with more acting skills, ready to seek revenge on M in his next life, who had now forgotten everything. As you can see, this is how you fulfill your past karma when the appropriate time and conditions arise. It becomes a little more complicated and tricky as you add more new karma every day.

  • Anatomy of dream

Dream Everyone has it one way or the other. For some it's a daily routine and for others it's a rare occurrence. Sometimes it can be direct and vivid but most of the time it's filled with riddles. Why are dreams important? Some think that dreams are just side effects of the brain's memory processing but it's far more than just that. Scientists like Freud and Jung made many research and discoveries on dreams. Dreams can sometimes be a signifier of something like a good or bad event from the past or the future. It can also be a forgotten event even from the past lives. There are many published articles and archived records of renowned scholars, scientists and inventors who got their famous ideas from their dreams. But on average it's hard to recollect the dream since it appears as random bits and pieces. The subconscious world is beyond time and space so everything happens everywhere at the same time. That’s why some people keep a notebook by their bed to write down their dreams. I suggest the same to my clients who dream a lot. Historical facts about dreams Elias Howe, known for inventing the lock-stitch sewing machine had a dream of a violent murder which gave him the idea of his innovation. The terminator movie from James Cameron was a dream. Special theory of relativity by Albert Einstein had come from a dream of electrocuting cows. Abraham Lincoln dreamt of his assassination. Many victims of 9/11 said they had dreams of a similar catastrophe a few days earlier. 19 victims had verified precognitive dreams of the Titanic shipwreck. (Source: History) Astrological explanation Astrologically the 12th house is the domain of sleep and subconscious world. Actually, all moksha houses are responsible for sleep but 12th house the most. You can understand your level of creativity based on the quality of your 12th house. Because its where Venus gets exalted in the natural order of the zodiacs. 12th house is also important in understanding your overall life because it determines the quality of your sleep. Dreams and 12th house also opens the door to understanding the deep concepts of life, karma, universe and beyond. Lets see some more with the help of Shastras. Mind Mind is intangible yet the most fascinating, powerful and trickiest organ of the body. Mind plays an important role in understanding the dreams. Mind acts as the platform where you see and feel dreams. Mind is the bridge between your subconscious and the conscious world. Your perception of the world is based according to your mind thus the term mindset (the way you set your mind). Mind has the power to self reflect itself through self contemplation, self observation, learning, questioning and sometimes even creating aliases to protect itself (termed as dissociative identities in modern science). Thus many ancient and modern day saints emphasized the importance of controlling and channeling the mind. Karma and dreams Thoughts, words and actions are three different modes through which you perform your karma. It can also be said as mental, verbal and physical actions. You already know that the karma you perform will come back to you (good and bad both) at right time. Based on this principle, i can tell you that physical actions come back physically, verbal actions come back verbally and mental actions come back mentally. We constantly think about a lot of things everyday except the time we sleep but where does it all go. Some are taking shape into words and some are into actions but what about those thoughts which simply stay in our head or simply pops up in the head and goes away? Think about it. Everything has repercussions according to the theory of karma, hence all your thoughts (which live or die as thoughts) will also come back in the way of "dreams". So the more you dream the more you finish your pending karma. Dreams are not just karmic duties but also the indicators of events like I said above. Read more about the karma, its types and how to fulfill your karma Sleep and death Vedic philosophers (Siddhars/Rishis) have always claimed that death is not a painful end, rather a resting period (like sleep) for the soul aka atma. It is mentioned in Shaiva Siddhantam that death is like the rest you take between every lifetime. It may sound funny or hogwash but just think about the process of sleep for a moment. Its one of the basic necessities for any living being. An average human being can't be awake for more than 36 hours without consequences. Many experiments done on human beings proved already that being awake for a prolong time may severely affect the body and can give permanent damages. The same way death is important so that the soul shall get its resting time. Of course its not easy to explain since soul is intangible but its not hard either, you just have to think and connect. What happens when you're asleep, your brain processes all the information of the day and keeps only the important information. Likewise the soul sheds all unwanted information after death to keep only the important. Now you may have a question in mind that if this is true then why can't you remember anything. It is because its buried deep inside your subconscious and you may require yoga practice to uproot those memories. Astrological significations Vedic texts made a lot of effort to teach us what mind is. Mind is Manas in sanskrit, one of four antakaranas that are intangible but holds the entirety of what we call the 6th sense. Vedic astrology, the derivation of vedic texts says moon is the significator of the mind. Thus understanding the moon can give you the glimpse of the mind. Moon is very secretive and manipulative graha (planet) among all. To understand this easily you can just look at the night sky, part of the moon is always hidden from our eyes (tidal locked) even though it is the closest one to earth. Scientists are still baffled by the sheer size of the moon compared to the proportion of other planets and their satellites in the solar system. Twelfth house is the most misunderstood house of all. It is said in general that 12th house denotes bed pleasures like sleep, dream, sex, isolation like jail, ashram, foreign travel, foreign stay etc. but 12th house alongwith 4th and 8th houses rules the sleep and subconscious world with deep imprinted memories of the soul. Because these 3 houses are called moksha houses. Moksha is where you get most comfortable so 4, 8 and 12 houses are important for sleep and dreams. Benefic planets or aspects in these houses will bring comforts (like deep sleep esp. in 4th and 12th) and malefic planets brings bad dreams and nightmares. Jupiter, Moon or the nodes in these houses may also make you intuitional. Note: Eighth house is natural malefic house so malefic planets or aspects will bring benefic results here. Eighth house is also responsible for your subconscious memories, mental stability and deep/hidden fears. Thus dreams are not just what we know already, it can be a subtle connection between your conscious and subconscious world.

  • Vaikunta Ekadashi (when Heaven's doors open wide) on 25th Dec 2020

It is an auspicious day for Hindus to worship Lord Vishnu aka Venkateshwara. Iskcon temples around the world will have special pujas on this day. Moon becomes benefic in waxing cycle and malefic in waning cycle. Thus the waxing cycle of Margashirsha month is considered most auspicious for special religious rituals and for starting new projects especially if it is sattvic in nature. Also read: The spiritual importance of Margashirsha Every tithi of this waxing cycle is important and Ekadashi is the 11th lunar day of moon’s cycle and it is connected to Lord Vishnu. Vishnu is residing in Vaikuntam aka the Svarga loka (heaven world), so the devotion towards Lord Vishnu on this day is believed to bring a heavenly abode. Even in vishnu temples the sanctum gate will be opened at the time of brahma muhurta (roughly an hour before sunrise) as a sign that the people who worship vishnu this day will reach the holy feet of lord vishnu. It is usually considered very powerful when you are awake the whole night and worship the deity at the time of Brahma Muhurta. Some people even stay at the temple the whole night to make things easier. Do’s: You can read Matsya purana, Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram, Bhagavad Gita, Vishnu suktam today for added benefits. Also you can install a new fish tank at home, start a new work that benefits others, involve healing others etc. The underlying reason is that there are many different Vishnus are there according to puranas and Vaishnava siddhanta. The vishnu we normally worship is one among a few since there are many different worlds (lokas) with different dimensions. According to puranas there are 14 worlds and some claim even more than that. The vishnu we worship is the presiding deity of our world including all 14 lokas. But our universe is inside another universe which is presided by another vishnu and it's like, our vishnu was created by another vishnu from a higher verse who was created by another etc. to make us understand the multidimensions and the multiverse. The same way Lord Shiva is explained in Shaiva siddhanta. Your soul takes many different lives in different worlds (lokas) based on its karma and the travel between these different realms are faster than light (just through consciousness/thought process). When you gain enough good karma you take birth at svarga loka where devas like indra and all nine grahas reside. But a soul can once again take birth here on our world if the karma gets stained again or can go to even higher realms based on karma purification. All these processes are explained in vedic texts. • Margashirsha month (மார்கழி/मार्गशीर्ष) from 16th Dec 2020 to 14th Jan 2021

Sun’s annual entry into sagittarius is denoted as Margashirsha month. Every year from mid december to mid january sun will be in sagittarius based on the sidereal solar calendar. Sagittarius consists of 3 nakshatras Mula, Purva Ashadha and Uttara Ashadha. The 7th aspect of Mula falls directly on Mrigashirsha nakshatra (every nakshatra has default 7th house aspect like every planet does), thus the name Margashirsha. Theme of this month is related to Mrigashirsha nakshatra such as searching for higher knowledge, new beginnings, becoming more active, taking steps and actions, communication, searching for deep hidden truths and meanings etc. Sun and Moon are the significators of king and queen, father and mother, ether and earth, left and right brain, abstract and logic respectively. The energy of all the different facets of astrology can be felt through the Sun and Moon itself. There can be no earth without sun and moon. That's why they both are given this utmost importance in jyotish. Their relative positions give a lot of indications to understand the current events. That’s why no matter how many different calendars we have around the world everything is based on lunar, solar or luni-solar calculations. Religious and spiritual significance Margashirsha has a special religious significance among months. Our one year is one day for the devas based on their dimension (according to vedas). Their dawn occurs everyday at the time of our Margashirsha month every year. Dawn is also called Brahma Muhurta, the most auspicious time of every day when the sattvic energy is at its maximum. Scientific significance Sun moves toward the southern hemisphere from july to december as seen from the tropical region and moves toward the north from jan to june every year based on the sidereal timeline. Margashirsha marks the midway when the sun appears to be stationary and moving towards the north (the daylight in the tropics will be more from jan onwards till june). It exactly starts from the day when moon transits Ardra (Betelgeuse) nakshatra in this month. Read more about the Ardra nakshatra and Arudra darshan ever year. Three gunas Shastras (dharma, artha and kama) talk about the three gunas that are the basis of everything in the world. Sattva, Rajas and Tamas. Sattva is responsible for good things, rajas is for the actions and efforts based on the ego, tamas is for the illusion, anger and greed. Everyday is filled with the mix of these three gunas. Guna means habit or the underlying factor of one’s actions. Sattva time is from dawn to early morning, rajas is from morning to evening and tamas is from dusk to the time before dawn (roughly till 3am). That's why 3am gets the front seat in every horror journal. Lord Krishna in Mahabharata said that he’s the spring among seasons, Margashirsha among months and Mango among fruits. The reason being the benefits it has for the good of mankind. Since Margashirsha represents the Brahma Muhurta time of a year it is recommended to start all the sattvic things such as pujas, homas, yogic practices, charity works, learning etc. especially from the Ardra nakshatra day. #milkywayastrology #aksastrology #arunastrology #mrigashirsha #margashirsha #december #arudradarshan #krishna #brahmamuhurta

  • Bhadrapada/भाद्रपदा (புரட்டாசி) month between September and October

Sun and Moon are significators of father and mother, soul and mind, left and right brain, right and left eye, day and night. Their conjunction and mutual aspect are important to figure out the impact it brings to the world. Vedic culture use sidereal methods of calendar calculation such as lunar, luni-solar and solar calendars. Solar calendar, where months are calculated based on the movement of both sun and moon. New moon (amavasya) is the conjunction and full moon (purnima) is the mutual aspect of sun and moon. Thus sun’s entry into virgo becomes the month of Bhadrapada (புரட்டாசி), equivalent to the luni-solar month Bhadrapada. It usually occurs between September and October. The new moon and full moon of this month occurs in the axis of virgo and pisces. The major theme of this month is based on the two bhadrapada nakshatras (directly opposite to virgo) aspected by sun, thus the name. Virgo is about determination and commitment (starts with uttara phalguni) while purva and uttara bhadrapada are about taking that commitment to the next level. These nakshatras will go to extremes to fulfill their desires and commitments on a physical as well as astral plane. These extremities may lead to good or bad results based on the individual mental state, that’s why more sattvicness is preached in this month to get the good results. Some Hindu cultures esp. in South India, people will avoid eating tamassic food such as non vegetarian and will read Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram, Bhagavat Gita, serve at temples and ashrams, donate to the needy to remove or reduce the tamassicness. Sri Tirupati Balaji temple will have many special poojas as it is one of the most auspicious months for worshipping Lord Vishnu. Because Vishnu is the preserver, he will give us the firm feet to walk on the earth and devoid of all six shadripus (kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mata and matsarya).

  • Adhik maas and dullness

Adhik maas (aka extra month) (अधिक मास) (கூடுதல் மாதம்) from September 18 to October 16, 2020 Vedic calendar has luni-solar and solar calculation methods. The luni-solar year has 354 days whereas the solar year has 365 days as we all know. Every year there is a gap of 11 days between luni-solar and solar years. Every third year this gap is filled by adding an extra month in the luni-solar calendar which becomes Adhik maas (aka Mala maas/Purushottam maas). The theme of this month is “moksha” (let go). You may feel the denial by someone or something feel lack of excitement and enthusiasm feel lazy and lethargic feel dreamy want to take rest all the time Lets see why. Because every month in vedic calendar is ruled by its presiding deity but no one was ready to be the deity of this month so the month itself prayed to God Vishnu to be the deity. Vishnu as usual accepted the prayer with a smile, since then it became “Purushottam maas”. Since this month was denied by everyone it carries the theme of denial, also God Vishnu, the presiding deity is in a resting state in the cosmic ocean which denotes that on a lower plane (earth) you may feel the above mentioned things. The underlying fact of this month is that it forces you to let go of something you’re attached to. It can be ego, materials, anger or anything which doesn't let you evolve. But letting go isn't easy, this is why the lethargy kicks in and makes you lose the excitement. It's usually not this intense but this time all the planets are against you. Sun is hemmed in Mercury and Venus (which creates chaos even in weather pattern) since 18th august till 25th october, Jupiter is hemmed in Ketu and Saturn since january of this year till december (entire year Paap kartari yoga), Mars is in Pisces since 18th june till 24th december and the cherry on top is Rahu Ketu transit occurred on 20th September. Remedies: Prayers to God Vishnu and charity to the needy are advised by the elders. Because Vishnu gives you the power to live a sustainable life by giving back what you take. Give more than what you take because the people close to you are a mere reflection of yours and vice versa. When you give more you’ll receive more. Read how to find laziness and procrastination in a horoscope. Note: I wasn’t aware of this before but started hearing from many people since last week that they feel a lack of excitement in everything and are lazy all the time. Then i did some research, also read the story behind this month. I can’t claim this to be true 100%. Of course some may feel energetic better than before because their planetary alignments may have the capacity to do so. So take it with a grain of salt. #milkywayastrology #arunastrology #vedicastrology #adhikmaas #malamaas #purushottammaas #extramonth #lunisolar #solarcalendar #hinducalendar #vediccalendar
